Embryo Transfer (ET)


NDDB has established state-of-the-art Embryo Transfer (ET) Laboratories at Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala, Bidaj and the Animal Breeding Centre, Salon.

Embryo Transfer technology involves collection of embryos from a superior donor female and their transfer to recipient cows who carry them to full term.  ET enables superior cows to produce 8 to 10 calves in a year and 50 to 60 calves in her lifetime.

 

Programme Centres


NDDB has established two ET Laboratories and 14 State ET Centres. The main ET Laboratory has been established at the Sabarmati Ashram Gaushala, Bidaj in Gujarat with a second ET Laboratory operating at the Animal Breeding Centre, Salon in Uttar Pradesh. State ET centres have been established in collaboration with the Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Ernakulam, Erode, Jaipur, Kaira, Kolhapur, Lalkuan, Ludhiana,  Mehsana,   Ongole, Pondicherry, Trivandrum and Ujjain cooperative milk producers' unions.
 




Significant Results


As on July 2001, 880 cattle and 110 buffalo calves have been produced using Embryo Transfer technology; a total of 5,000 cattle and 690 buffalo embryos have been cryo-preserved.
